Break some rules.
Everything I did differently this month.
This month, was all about breaking rules for me. And might I say I did so in ways that weren’t aesthetically or morally pleasing . Regardless, they made sense to me. And I practiced this rebellion over both serious and non serious things. Listing them down below:
Gave my Pina Colada a twist
Summer is long past gone. But I was in mood for some Pina Colada. So I made one. Except, I used orange juice AND drank it out of a wine glass. #littlerebellion
Wore slippers to office
By slippers, I don’t mean a pair of crocs decorated with charms (some may say even they look hideous). I mean my ugliest (and comfiest) pair of slippers. I would like to categorise this as #moderaterebellion .
I turned grief into celebration
My maternal grandmother passed away 10 days before Diwali. And initially, I felt obligated to mourn her passing by throwing away work and social commitments and indulging in performative sadness. But, I decided to go to a Diwali party a day after her passing. And to a marathon two days after. I put up fairy lights in my house. An aunty of mine called to clarify who had put up the lights if everyone was at my grandmother’s place. And I caught myself justifying to her that daughters of a house in mourning are allowing to celebrate festivals. Despite the questions or judgements it brought, I mourned how I know best - by being around people I love and doing things that make me feel happy.
PS. trying to make this a monthly thing
Also, here’s a punjabi song I’m obsessed w this month-
See u in november!
